10th Anniversary Party

Tuesday, 16 October 2007
OVER £9,000 RAISED AT THE 10th ANNIVERSARY PARTY on FRIDAY 12TH OCTOBER We would like to especially thank our hosts for the evening, The Royal Southern Yacht Club for offering up such a wonderful venue for the party. Soluxion Ltd kindly sponsored a rum punch (rocket fuel!) reception at the club, which ensured a lively start to the evening. Southampton based band 'Freddie Freeloader' played a lively set after the buffet dinner and got a good many guests setting the dance floor alight. The auction hosted by Rod Carr got off to a good start with an introductory speech from Dennis Merricks thanking everyone for their support over the last ten years and expressing his delight that the Trust is still growing after all this time thanks to the driving force of the Trustees and the many supporters out there who strive to raise funds for the charity. Rod then asked Ben Ainslie to join him for the first auction item of the night – a day out racing with Team Origin in Valencia which started a veritable bidding war. The other items up for auction were: a day out with Alex Thomson in his new Open 60 ‘Hugo Boss’; A fully signed Chelsea football; a full day of keelboat training with Jim Saltonstall. The auction raised a grand total of £3,700. Also many thanks go to all those companies and individuals who generously donated prizes or resources to ensure that we had a fantastic fundraising evening that truly celebrated 10 successful years of the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
