The new Commodore of Sussex Yacht Club, Chris West, has selected the John Merricks Sailing Trust and Sussex Sailability as the beneficiary charities for this year’s event. Over the past 4 years more than £21,500 has been donated to charity from the event.
This annual recreation of Charles II’s flight from his puritan pursuers, now in its 31st year, has become a well-established part of the Sussex sailing calendar. It draws large mixed fleets of hard-core racers and family cruisers alike, all eager to take part in the celebration of our proud nation’s sailing and Royalist traditions.
This year the Farr 45 John Merricks took part in the race with some of their regular crew from the RYA Keelboat programme along with members of the Sussex Yacht Club. They had a great race and won line honours on arrival at Fecamp.
