Glorious day for the Glyn Charles Pursuit Race
Report courtesy of Hayling Island Sailing Club
A beautiful day at Hayling greeted the 120 competitors for the Glyn Charles Pursuit Race. A very warm 5-10 knot Southerly breeze met with approval from the non-asymmetric boats and the strong flooding tide meant that navigation around Chichester Harbour was a key part of the race.
At the finish the top three places were taken by different keelboats. 1st Place to the Elite of Mike Dawe, 2nd Place to the beautiful Sunbeam of Chichester Harbour Harbour Master John Davies and Third Place to Flying Fifteen husband and wife team Tessa and Nick Lancaster.
Over £5,000 worth of prizes were awarded with Jane Blaydes taking away a car full for her fantastic 5th place in her Solo (1st single hander, 1st lady only boat, 1st in largest fleet + 5th overall).
Glyn's mother Margaret made a very touching speech to the competitors and thanked everybody for their support in the race and the monies raised for the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
