Holt Blow Boat Challenge raises £400 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust. A huge thank you goes to Holt for raising such a great amount at their Blow Boat Challenge, held at the 2006 RYA Dinghy Show. The event, hosted by VX40 Team Basilica Crew James Grant, Alistair Richards and Peter Greenhalgh, was a storming success and raised £400 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust. The VX40 boys were on hand to all weekend to give racing commentary, design advice and challenge each other to match racing. All the kids paid a £1 donation and collected a pack containing boat building materials to design and make the fastest miniature boat for high performance match racing along the blow boat canals. Racing was close, and exciting - there were capsizes, pitch-poles and groundings! Some of the designs may well be seen in future big boat racing…… James Grant did a sterling job on the microphone rallying the crowds and encouraging the kids to have a go. Peter Greenhalgh and Alistair Richards gave coaching tips and encouragement to the racers. The match race between Alistair and Peter was very close – Peter pipped his fellow crew mate to the post using a last minute gust of breath to overtake Alistair who could not have predicted he would get caught in a lull so near to the finish line…. The Blow Boat Regatta played host to 200 hundred children making and racing their boats and raised £200 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust. Holt have matched this amount and will be donating £400 to the charity. Thanks again to Holt for their generous support of the John Merricks Sailing Trust.
