‘Stars of Sailing’ celebrate at the sell out Charlie Fish Rum Ball in the Jungle
The party on the closing Friday night of Cowes Week was attended by Olympic Medallists Ben Ainslie, Shirley Robertson, Ian Walker, Sarah Ayton and Nick Rogers, who auctioned a selection of signed shirts and a day of coaching with Nick Rogers to a lively audience and Lance Stevens won the prizes with a bid of £600 – which he then most generously raised to a full £1,000 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust. Thank you Lance – we hope you enjoy winning the shirts of their backs and your day of coaching!
The famous hot tubs were back in action and proved to be one of the most sought-after spots from which to watch the spectacular fireworks. LA Tour performed a great set and had everyone on their feet on the dance floor, followed by DJ Des Paul who kept the floor filled with some fantastic tunes through until 2 am.
A Raytheon Hand Held Chart Plotter and Raytheon Hand Held VHF were the top prizes in the raffle along with Maui sunglasses, beach towels and hats.
The Trust sends out a massive thank you to the Charlie Fish boys for all their tireless promoting of the event and their time organising the event.
Also huge thanks to all those involved at Northwood House for putting on such a great party – especially to Steve who seemed to spend most of the week in the cupboard at Ocean World!
